Hello,
My name is Kristen Fallon. I am a private voice and piano instructor in the San Diego area. I work from my home studio with students of all ages. I am a graduate of Westminster Choir College, which has a world-renowned music program. I have a Bachelor of Arts in Music, Voice Primary, Piano Secondary. I have studied extensively vocal technique, music theory, and music teaching, and have been trained in Classical, Music Theater, and Popular music styles. I am a graduate of Boston University and have obtained a Masters Degree in Music Education. My coursework included research into the effects of vocal exercises on adolescent voices and completion of a capstone curriculum project which focused on private lessons. I sing as a cantor, and a choir member at St. Therese of Carmel Catholic Church. I am a member of the San Diego Master Chorale, which performs frequently with the San Diego Symphony Orchestra. I also obtained a music technology certification through TI:ME.
I believe that healthy singing is important for students to learn. I teach students proper breathing techniques along with healthy vocal practices. Each lesson will start with a warm up. These warm ups will help strengthen the voice. I also believe that it is important for singers to know how to read sheet music and to understand basic music theory. This understanding is important for home practice, and for furthering musical knowledge. The vocal curriculum also includes student song selection, improvisation, performance practice, technology usage, listening exercises and discussion.
I teach beginning piano lessons to students age 5 and up. I use the Faber Piano Adventures book series to teach my students proper hand positioning, reading sheet music, and music theory. The piano curriculum also includes student song selection, improvisation, performance practice, technology usage, and discussion.
I create individualized lesson plans that are goal oriented for each of my students. Each of my students will learn what they want to learn- and they will have a blast doing it! Some of my vocal students are interested in learning more about harmony and music theory, while others are more interested in performing. Some of my piano students want to learn classical piano techniques and play classical music, while others want to learn vamping and sight reading so they can accompany singers- or even sing themselves. These lesson plans guide student practice between their weekly lessons. The lesson plans also help students advance in their instrument.
I hope that you will enjoy the content on this website. Please contact me if you have any questions or would like to schedule a lesson!
